Fashion Designer Manuel De la Cruz

The work of Manuel de la Cruz has been shaped by his family and his country Guatemala.... He was born in Guatemala in 1979, being the youngest of  3. His creative inspirations, drawn from his mother, sisters and culture, are directly reflected in his work. At age 14, de la Cruz obtained his first fashion education and graduated from Llatzer in his native Guatemala. At 17 his passion propelled him into the world of Italian fashion. While enjoying his time in the Mediterranean, Manuel studied at Marangoni in Milan and attended Michelangelo in Florence. As a result of his positive international experiences in both Italy and Guatemala, de la Cruz went on to study tailoring at Parsons The New School for Design in New York City, where he now resides. During his studies de la Cruz worked closely with notable bridal and eveningwear designer, Angel Sanchez, who Manuel now considers a mentor.

In 2002 de la Cruz’s talents were recognized and he went on to work as a freelance designer for top fashion houses, including Narciso Rodriguez , Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Givenchy, Gucci, Versace, and Marc Jacobs. From his vast experience, de la Cruz joined strengths with partner Brian Levy and began the works of MDLC & CO., showing the first collection in 2005 during New York Fashion Week.

De la Cruz is always looking for ways to celebrate the human body. His particular style and vision fuse classic shapes and modern construction that together accentuate the female form. The Manuel de la Cruz woman is the multitasking social butterfly, who isn’t afraid to flaunt her figure; his man is exquisitely dressed and willing to stand out from the crowd...
